Donnelly River Wines is owned and operated by the Borrello Family. Located in the Pemberton Wine Region in South West Western Australia, Donnelly River Wines has long been established as a premium West Australian wine producer. Established in 1986, it was the first winery in the region with a crush of approximately 60 tonnes in 1990. In the late 1990’s increased demand for Donnelly River Wines resulted in a further 6 Ha of grapes being planted. The Donnelly River Estate is located on the banks of the Donnelly River as it is crossed by the Vasse Highway, in the ‘tall timber’ Karri country. The rich river flats and the surrounding hills of silty loam have provided ideal for the vines. Most of the vineyards in the area are planted in semi-fertile soils that are either gravelly loams, sandy loams or a deep red soil called "Karri Loam". The area has a dry cool ripening period that is well suited to most of the premium grape varieties. Though it is very wet during the winter months, this rainfall is stored in dams to be used for irrigation during the summer months. Donnelly River Wines has 1.7 kilometres of river frontage, and also uses the river for some of its irrigation needs. At the right time of the year Marron and Trout can be caught from the river.
